This morning our Writing Club held it's inaugural Author's Breakfast celebrating the amazing efforts of our young writers. I am so incredibly proud of the dedication, creativity, imagination, hard work and enthusiasm demonstrated by students each week. Thank you so much to all the families that attended this morning - you make my job a dream!

Thank you to everyone who has attended, provided resources, lent a helping hand and generally supported Science Club this term. I have enjoyed getting to know so many students (and a few parents) and have been inspired by your creativity and enthusiasm.
Week 9?!?!?!? What a full and fantastic term we've had! I cannot believe we almost half way through the school year! Said, congratulations and thank you for arriving at school each day with an endless enthusiasm to learn. I love sharing a classroom with you. Sasha, I am so very proud of the way you have been trying your personal best in all areas of learning over the last few weeks. Your efforts are helping you to improve every day. Mrs Hosking also noticed a 1/2T student doing their personal best and presented Molly with an Art award this week. Congratulations Said, Sasha and Molly. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. See you in Week 10 :-) We ran, we relayed, we parachute played, jumped, scooped, threw, caught, twisted, passed, crawled and lept .... Many of us devoured a sausage sandwich and we all made it back to school having had lots of fun (somewhat tired!!) I am going to have to invest in a new thesaurus to come up with a wider range of adjectives to describe our adventures. The cardboard challenge today was an incredible success!!! I cannot tell you how much I love seeing our wonderful Science Club students so enthusiastically engaged in creative activities. Some of their ideas were amazing!!! The students worked so independently and with such determination. I see them concentrating hard and then adjusting their designs as they come across flaws and challenges. In other tasks children may walk away if something isn't working but in this kind of challenge, they persevere and continue to adjust their efforts. It is often said that creativity, innovation, flexibility and critical thinking are the skills of the future and I certainly witnessed these in abundance today. The fun continued for 1/2T in our classroom after lunch. The second of our Mega Single Subject days had us learning about Literacy all day today. We read and wrote most of the day and also tested our speaking and listening skills and dramatic talents, using the dress up box to find a costume and then be interviewed in character. The past two days have been FULL ON, exciting and challenging learning experiences!! I think we are ALL working in our challenge zone to learn new things, build resilience and flexibility as well as consolidating our knowledge. Well done 1/2T.... you do indeed make our classroom a wonderful place to be!! Today we were incredibly lucky to have Emily the PIlot come to speak to K-2 students about her job. Emily is only 22 years old and has been flying since she was 16!! We learnt about some of the equipment Emily uses and how varied and exciting her job is. Emily has to take part in some intense training sessions every three months in the flight simulator to ensure she is prepared for any possible situation. Her job is different every day and we loved hearing about some of the remote communities she serves. I love these visits because I feel as though they have the potential to inspire and educate our wonderful children. I like to imagine some of our students graduating in their chosen career in years to come remembering the day they decided they would become a ........... Most of all, our guest presenters model what it is like to love your job, serve your community with passion, and value life-long learning.
Thank you Emily!!!!! And Mrs Richardson for coordinating this fantastic learning opportunity!! As part of our Children-in-Charge timetable this week, students chose to learn about one subject per day (excluding our timetabled external activities). As a result, today was Mega-Maths-Monday and we sure had A LOT of fun!! My phone was being very temperamental so I don't have many photos but it really was a fabulous day of learning and I saw a lot of growth in many students by focussing on mathematics all day. We have three hard-working winners this week. Tudevlin, I always value the wonderful contribution you make during maths activities. You have, and inspire in others, an ability to work and play competitively WITH great sportsmanship and a sense of fun. You play to learn and always take the time to check your answers and understanding, encouraging your classmates to do the same. Well done!! Bethany, I have been so impressed by your consistent efforts to improve your writing!!! You are writing so neatly and working diligently to create longer imaginative texts. I love seeing you sit at your desk, reread your current story and then busily continue where you left off. Fantastic effort!! Channing was our third winner this week with an award from Mrs Murphy-Haste acknowledging the way you have been working cooperatively in the Library :-) A very belated acknowledgement of our Week 7 award winners. Congratulations and a huge thank you to Jaden for your outstanding contribution to our Science discussion about snails. Your broad general knowledge and ability to communicate your understanding enhanced this learning experience for ALL of us!! Elliot, we had to celebrate your exciting recount about the wild weather. Your beautiful descriptive writing made me feel as though I was standing on South Curl Curl Beach with you! |
Rebecca ThomsonI come to teaching later in life with all the enthusiasm and passion it takes to complete a degree while parenting and working part time. I was lucky enough to complete my internship with Skye Surrest on Stage 3 in 2013 and am now loving my third year teaching a Stage One class at Brookvale Public School. Brookvale is a very special school. The staff are amazing, incredibly dedicated, kind and supportive... But most of all, I love the students! 1/2T are such a wonderful class and I adore teaching and learning with them every single day! Blogs I follow
