There were a few tears shed this afternoon. A touch of nerves about leaving the familiar but mostly happy tears about having shared a year (or two!) with such a beautiful classroom family. It has been a delight and privilege to teach and learn from your children each day, to get to know them, to realise their talents, enjoy their sense of humour and share their ups and downs. I have the best job in the world because of you and your children.
The rain prevented us from visiting The Coastal Environment Centre so the Coastal Environment Centre came to us! The whole school rotated through various activities in the Library, Art rooms and classrooms and we certainly had a lot of fun for a very rainy day. There were a few tears shed this afternoon. We were saddened on Tuesday when our 1/2T Fairy Door disappeared....
And thrilled today to see that The Fairies have found us in our new digs, had breakfast with Robert and Ruby and left us a Fairy Encyclopedia book. The inscription read, "To 1/2T, a place where magic happens." There are several parents who should seriously think about starting a catering business! I would order lunch from you every day :-)
Our winners today were Neive and Jamie... but Molly's risotto also looked delicious! I think we were all feeling a bit traumatised and saddened as we left our beloved 1/2T classroom yesterday. Almost every teacher in the school moved classrooms so things were a bit chaotic. I'm so proud of all our students for their practical help and resilience during a challenging time. We regained some semblance of order today, with our 'big kids' desks and new surroundings. We were very glad to see that Robert and Ruby have followed us down the corridoor. Students also read a special poem to Mrs Hosking at lunchtime. Mrs Hosking is retiring at the end of the year and we are devestated to see her go. Not only is her art program outstanding, she is also an inspiring colleague. We will miss her dearly. I love the way the healthy lunchbox challenge has become an integral part of our day. There were multiple winners yesterday.... Jamie (of course!), Neive, Molly, Belle, Keeley, Luca, Aneka, Mrs Downes and myself!! Neive's salmon salad looked delicious. Did I miss anyone? Today's winners were.... Molly and Jamie!!! I know that your healthy food choices make a difference to your work in the classroom each day :-) I can't believe it!! I only took ONE photo today!!! I will have to put the students back in charge of the blog! The book openers today were Cruz and Poppy.
Week 9!!! I have such mixed emotions! I am very much looking forward to slowing down, hanging out with my daughter and enjoying a break. I am also desperate for the year to slow down and so sad to think that we only have five more days together in 1/2T. Congratulations to our award winners, our healthy lunchbox winners, our book openers and our disco dancers. What a frantic week! I hope everyone enjoys the weeknd. I love Presentation Day because I have the opportunity to stand in front of our school community in the hall and see the beaming faces of 1/2T students. I look at every student and am amazed at how much they have grown and developed in knowledge, skills, resilience and confidence during the year. I honestly wish I could take 30 minutes to acknowledge and celebrate the progress of each and every student. I am so proud of our class family! Congratulations to our Gold, Silver, Bronze Award winners.... Elliot, Poppy and Sam. These students consistently demonstrate Respect and Responsibility in the classroom and always strive to do their Personal Best. They are wonderful role models and help make 1/2T a fabulous place to be! Our other winners are: Academic Award - Keeley, always in the Challenge Zone! I love the way you embrace feedback and learning goals and arrive at school having thought about, embraced and extended your understanding through personal interest projects at home. Commitment to Learning - Molly, I love the way you walk into the classroom with a smile on your face, ignoring distractions with a fierce and infectious enthusiasm to learn. You never shy away from hard work and are one of our students who embodies an "I don't know....yet" attitude while tackling your next learning challenge. Citizenship - Belle, always ready with a kind word, caring gesture, willingness to help others, sense of justice, ability to see another's perspective. Your kind and courageous attitude will take you a long way! Reader of the Year - Bethany. We are a class of readers but Bethany, I had to acknowledge your determination to improve in Reading this year. When we are in the Engine Room, you always manage any distractions and sit focused and ready to learn with your finger on the first word. Your effort in reading has also improved your writing! Most Improved - Neive, from a shy start, it has been a delight to watch you blossom and shine with confidence, understanding and ability, all underpinned by a strong work ethic. The fairies and I are proud of you! Attendance Award - 100% attendance in 2016!! Neive I like the way you said to me this afternoon, "You will need to take my photo twice, seperately for each award" Great idea Neive! I also have to acknowledge Molly here, she was absent for two hours in 2016! Environment Award - Thank you Aneka for developing an idea of sustainability and being an incredible garden helper with Mrs Dixon. And then there's the whole happy dance and winning the Sunrise competition, the healthy lunchbox challenge (Jamie and Belle again!!!), and Robert and Ruby, and the Christmas Concert and getting through a long, hot, absolutely no routine day. Thanks for sharing it with us and congratulations to everyone in 1/2T!! |
Rebecca ThomsonI come to teaching later in life with all the enthusiasm and passion it takes to complete a degree while parenting and working part time. I was lucky enough to complete my internship with Skye Surrest on Stage 3 in 2013 and am now loving my third year teaching a Stage One class at Brookvale Public School. Brookvale is a very special school. The staff are amazing, incredibly dedicated, kind and supportive... But most of all, I love the students! 1/2T are such a wonderful class and I adore teaching and learning with them every single day! Blogs I follow
